Pfeiffer baseball falls to Lynchburg 8-2

The visiting University of Lynchburg started fast and limited the Pfeiffer University baseball team to just two runs in an 8-2 win over the Falcons at Joe Ferebee Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets (10-4) wasted little time, scoring three runs in the top of the first.
Lynchburg earned a leadoff walk and after a strikeout, a single down the right field line from Kinston Carston made it 1-0.
One batter later, a single through the left side of the Falcon defense provided the 2-0 lead. After another walk and strikeout, another RBI single was hit to left center field, making it 3-0.
Pfeiffer (6-5) cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bryce Marsh singled home freshman Jake Brown. Brown singled earlier in the inning and advanced to second on a balk from Hornet pitcher Brandon Pond.
Lynchburg pushed four runs across the plate in the seventh and another in the ninth to take the 8-1 lead.
The Falcons were able to get a run in the home half of the ninth on an RBI single from Eli Blake to provide the eventual final.
Lynchburg pitcher Brandon Pond pitched seven inning for the Hornets, allowing four hits and one run while striking out five Falcon batters to earn the win.
Pfeiffer used five pitchers on the afternoon, with Jonathan Conway going four innings, allowing three runs on three hits in taking the loss. Conway struck out four Lynchburg batters on the afternoon.
