Pfeiffer University and Stanly Community College will remain open, though the situation is fluid and could be subject to change depending on the spread of the coronavirus.

At 7 a.m. Friday, Pfeiffer sent a message on its website detailing that since there are zero confirmed cases of the virus in Stanly County, classes scheduled for the university’s Misenheimer campus will continue. Some courses though may be modified.

The message also states Charlotte- and Raleigh-based classes will meet in an online format until at least April 1. Classes for the Marriage and Therapy program will be canceled until at least Wednesday so professors and administrators have time to evaluate and prepare for alternative course delivery methods.

University operations will continue except for events and gatherings with more than 50 people in attendance and athletic events will be modified or postponed.

SCC president Dr. John Enamait said Friday that though SCC will remain open to the community, the college is taking several measures to minimize the spread of the virus. Spring break for students will be extended to all of next week.

SCC faculty and staff will report to campus on Monday and Tuesday and will finalize plans to deliver instruction via distance education methods. Also employees, to the best extent possible, will begin teleworking Wednesday. Staff Professional Development Day, scheduled for Thursday, has also been canceled.
