Pfeiffer sweeps FDU-Florham

The Pfeiffer University softball team kept its winning streak intact in downing visiting FDU-Florham by scores of 5-0 and 4-3 Tuesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.

Game 1

Pfeiffer scored in each of the first three innings and held the visiting Devils to just four hits in taking the 5-0 shutout win.

Freshman Hailey Myers wasted no time as she ripped a single down the left field line and would later steal second. A groundout advanced Myers to third and following a walk from Kari Westerbeek, Reece Davis delivered an RBI after hitting into a fielder’s choice. Caiti Mickles then tripled down the right field line, scoring Davis and putting the Falcons up 2-0.

Pfeiffer was then able to load the bases in the second inning and Westerbeek drew a bases loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0. The lead then reached 4-0 after an RBI single from Paige Love in the third inning and then reached 5-0 in the sixth on another Davis RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Pfeiffer then retired the Devils in order in the seventh to take the 5-0 win.

Falcon pitcher Taylor Parrish earned the win in the circle, improving to 5-1 on the season. She scattered three hits on the afternoon in three innings of work and had one strikeout.

Game Two

Pfeiffer’s Ashlynn Kennedy hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie, sending the Falcons to a 4-3 win.

One again Pfeiffer jumped ahead in the first inning. Westerbeek hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Myers, who led the inning off with a walk.

A Devil error aided the Falcons in the second inning, allowing Addison York to score, making it 2-0. The lead then went to 3-0 when Myers singled in Paige Love to boost the Falcon lead to 3-0.

In the sixth, the Devils fought back to tie the game at 3-3. Morgan DeLorento had an RBI double, followed by a Dani Sames RBI single that made it 3-2.

The game was then tied at 3-3 when Hunter Ruppel scored on a wild pitch.

In the sixth, Sara Brown managed a leadoff double and following a Myers flyout, advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kennedy then provided her sacrifice fly, scoring Brown to provide the eventual 4-3 win.

Caiti Mickles earned the win for the Falcons in game two, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five.

FDU-Florham pitcher Ciara Hoffman took the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs while issuing four walks.
