I would like to thank all of the many volunteers who supported the Albemarle Rotary Club’s Rise Against Hunger event on Feb 29.

Rotarians, along with many volunteers (total of 158 volunteers), helped pack 20,088 meals which will be sent to help school feeding programs throughout the world.

Our club appreciates all of the help provided from the many families, community volunteers, Scouts and their leaders from Troop 202, ROTC students and the ROTC personnel, the youth group and their leader from Uwharrie Community Church, students from Albemarle High School’s Chick- Fil-A Leadership Academy, students from the YMCA Sailfish Swim Team and many, many other volunteers from different groups who willingly gave of their time to make the event a success.

Rise Against Hunger is driven by the vision of a world without hunger. The mission is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable and creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.

Malnutrition affects one in three people in the world. Rise Against Hunger’s meals are distributed to school feeding programs around the world. These meals encourage school attendance and help put the children and their families on a path out of poverty.

Rotary’s vision is Service Above Self. Therefore, the Albemarle Rotary Club continuously sponsors many events to help improve our community plus events such as Rise Against Hunger to help people in other areas of our world.

This year was the second year that the Albemarle Rotary Club sponsored a Rise Against Hunger event as part of their International focus. Anyone needing more information on the Rise Against Hunger program can visit the Albemarle Rotary Club Facebook page or contact any Rotarian.

Again, thanks to all who helped with this important project.
