COVID-19 tests are available as needed and it is not necessary for everyone to be tested
for COVID-19 at this time.

NCDHHS has expanded testing criteria for COVID-19. Only those who meet the following criteria should ask their doctor or local health department about being testing for COVID-19:

1. Have fever or lower respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath) and close
contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case within the past 14 days; OR

2. Have fever and lower respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath) and a
negative rapid flu test.

Individuals who meet the criteria should follow CDC guidelines to prevent further
spread and immediately contact their doctor or the Stanly County Health Department.

At that time, a clinician or a public health official will decide if a COVID-19 test is
appropriate. Due to the most recent testing criteria, there will be ongoing testing for
Stanly County residents.

The NC Department of Health and Human Services is working closely with the Stanly
County Health Department and local health care providers to issue the latest
guidance for when testing is appropriate. People who have been identified as being in
close contact with a positive case of COVID-19 will be contacted by their local health
department.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published new guidance as of March 15 on mass gatherings. It is now recommended that for the next eight weeks organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 or more people throughout the United States. Examples of large events or mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events,
weddings, and other types of assemblies.
