To comply with Gov. Roy Cooper’s recent stay at home order, which bans gatherings of more than 10 people, Stanly County Schools has tweaked its meal distribution system.

Stanly County Schools will move from door-to-door bus delivery and eight drive through sites to community bus stops and four drive through sites beginning Tuesday.

The four drive through sites will be Albemarle Middle (bus parking lot), South Stanly Middle (bus parking lot), Badin Elementary (bus lot off Boyden Street) and Stanfield Elementary (car rider line). The drive through sites will still operate from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Spring Break (April 10 through April 17).

For the community bus stop locations, buses will arrive at 11:30 a.m. each day and will be located in the front parking lots at Richfield Elementary, Millingport Elementary, Oakboro Choice STEM, West Stanly High School, Norwood Elementary, Aquadale Elementary and Central Elementary School. Albemarle High community stop will be at the side parking lot. The community bus stops will operate Monday through Friday, except for Spring Break (April 10 through April 17).

“We ask that everyone practice social distancing when receiving the meals at the community bus stop locations,” the school system wrote in a news brief on its website. “It is important that we respect one another as we all support the mandates given to promote public safety.”

The distribution system, which began two weeks ago, has already delivered 84,752 meals as of last Thursday. Schools across the state will remain closed until at least May 15.
