The Oakboro Town Council will have a public hearing and meeting on Tuesday in regards to a potential new industrial business in the area.

With the current restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the council will first consider a motion to declare a public hearing, which is mandated by statute as an essential government operation.

Also a public hearing will be conducted in regards to appropriating funds to induce a heavy industrial manufacturing company, of which a portion will be in the Oakboro town limits.

Tuesday’s meeting also has a proposal for a motion to approve a resolution from the Stanly County Board of Commissioners authorizing economic incentives.

The agenda also has a resolution for the support of Project Blue Sky, which previously had been identified as having to do with Charlotte Pipe and Foundry.

Oakboro’s town council will also go into closed session.

The town meeting will adhere to guidelines with social distancing and mass gathering requirements of fewer than 10 people. Members of the community will be able to watch the live broadcast at the community center on 523 S. Main St. in Oakboro. A video broadcast will also be available via the town’s Facebook page.

The Stanly News & Press will have coverage Tuesday night after the meeting.
