Man arrested for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill

Stanly County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man following a shooting Saturday in Oakboro.

Detectives charged Tyler Andrew Whitley, 29, of 1348 N. Main St., Oakboro, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.
Thomas Gray Smith, the victim, is recovering.
Whitley has an initial court date of July 6 and is under a $50,000 secured bond.
