The Stanly County Board of Education conducted a special meeting Monday night and approved a motion to make an offer to a Stanly County Schools employee to be the interim superintendent.

Board member Vicky Watson made a motion, after a two-hour closed session, that the board make an offer for the new interim superintendent to be Vicki Calvert, assistant superintendent of personnel and student services for Stanly County Schools. The new position for Calvert, should she accept it and sign the contract, would start July 1.

Anthony Graves seconded the motion and the board passed it unanimously.

Calvert would take over for Jeff James, who has accepted the superintendent position with Iredell-Statesville Schools and will assume his new role July 1.
