The Center for Prevention Services in partnership with Crossroads Connection Faith Community and Project Lazarus is hosting a series of virtual educational programs, starting Sunday, to help combat opioid abuse in the county.

The series is part of a five-year $1.25 million Partnership for Success Grant that CPS was awarded and that will serve the needs of those in Stanly. The grant will run through Sept. 20, 2024.

The first program will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the teleconferencing tool Zoom and will focus on substance use prevention strategies among youth. The speaker will be CPS grant manager Neetu Verma. The last 15 minutes will be reserved for questions.

“We really want people to show up,” Verma said.

There will be one to two programs per month.

The Zoom meeting I.D. is 845 762 1342 and the password is Boardman2o.

Delton Russell of Will’s Place will be the speaker for the next session on May 31 and EMS community paramedic Mike Campbell will speak on June 14. The times will also be 4 p.m.
