Some of the members of Locust’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post look to celebrate this Memorial Day with an event to give back to the community.

Members of VFW Post No. 6365 will celebrate Memorial Day with a drive-thru food drive at the Locust Vietnam Memorial by Locust City Hall.

Bobbi Sheets, commander of Post No. 6365, said West Stanly Christian Ministries is looking for all kinds of non-perishable food items. The group is looking to try and fill a more than two ton military truck more commonly called a “deuce and a half.” The food will go to the food pantry in Stanfield.

The public is encouraged to bring Food May 23 from 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in a drive-thru and drop-off format. Those driving through will receive a “Buddy Poppy” symbolic of the blood shed by soldiers in World War I.
