Stanly County Schools plans to name its next superintendent by late August, according to a timeline recently posted on the school system’s website.
The timeline, which is subject to modification based on school board meetings and candidate availability for interviews, lists important dates throughout the summer.
A candidate application is also posted on the website, which requires the individual chosen must live in Stanly County and demonstrate a strong ability in categories including instructional and administrative leadership, partnering with community members, school personnel and government officials, budgeting and personnel management and staff development, among others.
Applications must be turned into the law office of Campbell Shatley, which is performing the search, by July 1.
From July 6-12, the school board will select candidates to be interviewed. A second round of interviews, if required or desired, would take place during a two-week period in early August before the board selects a candidate and makes an offer on Aug. 14.
The new superintendent will be named publicly Aug. 20 and will officially start sometime in October or November.
The school board announced during its May meeting that it plans to conduct a national search to replace Superintendent Dr. Jeff James, who was chosen in April to become the new superintendent at Iredell-Statesville Schools. James, who has served as SCS superintendent since 2018, will assume his new role starting July 1.
Vicki Calvert, assistant superintendent of personnel and student services, was named interim superintendent during a special school board meeting last week.
