Stanly Community College will resume some face-to-face instruction beginning as early as next week, according to an email President Dr. John Enamait sent to faculty and staff and shared with The Stanly News & Press.

Classes approved for face-to-face instruction include:

• Nurse Aid
• EMS
• Certified Allied Health courses needing lab time
• Fire
• In-service training for law enforcement
• Real estate
• Effective Teacher Training
• Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology
• Optional lab time for HVAC and Machining
• Completion of IE grades for Welding and Cosmetology
• Career & College Readiness (ABE, AHS, ESL, HRD, HSE)
• Certain Customized Training Courses
• Clinical sites will resume as the sites become available to students

Enamait said the Learning Resource Center and food pantries will also be open. Beginning June 15, the LRC will open for students from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Students can access computer and networks while in the LRC, which will be limited to 15 people at a time.

The food pantries and student resource centers will be open noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and testing will resume at the testing center on campus by appointment.

While everyone is still “strongly encouraged” to continue teleworking, Enamait said the college is now relaxing the on-campus restrictions for employees.

“If you have a need to access campus resources to perform your job functions, you may come to campus,” he said.

The plan for the fall semester is to adhere to the already approved fall schedule. Though SCC plans to have as many classes online as possible, Enamait said the college plans to have face-to-face instruction occur “on a level closer to normal.” Enamait expects to have more staff and students on campus in the fall, but SCC expects to still see a “moderate level” of teleworking.

More information about impacts of the fall semester will be communicated in July, Enamait said.

“Each of you have done a tremendous job in light of incredible challenges,” he said. “I sincerely appreciate what you have done to support SCC and our community during the pandemic.”
