The town of Badin’s 2020-2021 budget keeps the property tax rate remain at 42 cents per $100 valuation.

The council adopted the budget June 9.

The total budget expenditure is $930,541, which is an increase over last year’s budget, which was $858,000.

The budget includes $420,050 for the Badin Police Department, $207,200 for the public works department, $224,475 for administration department and $53,305 Powell Bill allocations, which is used for street maintenance, and $25,500 for parks and recreation department.

The revenue, which also totals $930,541, includes $375,000 from sales and use tax, $250,000 from property tax and $42,000 from utility franchise tax.

Almond said the sales tax revenue is less compared to year’s past, when it’s at least $400,000, due to all the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re having to plan what we expect to be a reduced revenue in sales tax which for our town is our primary income,” he said.
