Red Cross’ property tax rate to remain at 16 cents

The Town of Red Cross’ 2020-2021 annual budget will keep the tax rate at 16 cents per $100 valuation.

The town council held a public hearing and approved the budget during its meeting Monday night.

The total budget expenditure is $305,000.

This includes $75,000 for waste disposal, $71,000 for general funds, $60,000 for capital improvements, $55,000 for fire protection, $22,000 for police protection (Stanly County Sheriff), $14,000 for zoning and $8,000 for nondepartmental.

For fire protection, $25,000 is for the Oakboro Fire Department, and $15,000 each for the West Stanly Fire Department and the Ridgecrest Fire Department.

The revenue is comprised of $220,000 in sales and uses tax and $85,000 in property tax.
