The Stanly County Health Department reports 175 total positive cases of COVID-19 and five deaths as of Tuesday afternoon.

There have been 127 individuals that have recovered and the health department is actively
monitoring 42 individuals.

The Stanly County Health Department is conducting ongoing contact tracing to identify and
monitor all persons who were exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19 during their
infectious period. Because these persons are at risk of developing disease and spreading the virus, contacts are monitored by the health department for 14 days from the last date they had exposure to a confirmed case.

“We are finding that in many cases contacts are coming from family gatherings, birthday parties and end of school celebrations,” Stanly County Health and Human Services Director David Jenkins said. “For every positive case of COVID-19, we may have as many as 10 contacts that we are responsible for following up with. With our current active cases of 42, that can equate to as many as 420 individuals we are working with to further limit exposure to others. ”
