Two firefighters injured in Fiberon fire

Two Albemarle firefighters were injured Thursday morning after they were working on a fire at the Fiberon plant in New London that occurred the day before.
Albemarle Fire Chief T. Pierre Brewton said the two firefighters, who are part of a rotation of members, were injured around 5 a.m. Thursday during a flash fire. The cause of the flash fire is unknown and is under investigation, Brewton said.
One of the firefighters went to Atrium Health Stanly where he was treated and released for minor burns and bruises. He is not yet back on active duty but is expected to make a full recovery, Brewton said.
The other firefighter went to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem where he was evaluated for burns.
Brewton said the firefighter is currently still at Baptist, but he has been told the firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries.
In addition to AFD, Bethany and New London volunteer fire departments along with West Stanly fire department also responded to the fire, which occurred Wednesday morning. Fire marshals and Stanly County EMS were also on the scene.
