Stanly evens record with win over Concord

The Stanly County NC3 senior baseball team made it three wins in the team’s last four outings with a home win Thursday over Concord 8-6.

Stanly (5-5, 5-4 league) built a six-run lead early, scoring twice in the first and a four-run effort in the third. Concord trailed 8-3 in the ninth but got a three-run home run to pull within two runs. Sawyer Smith struck out the final two batters of the game to preserve the win.

Six of Stanly’s eight hits in the games went for extra bases, including triples from Colton Austin and Jaxon Barbee and doubles by Jack Foley, Cody Kidd, Cody Naylor and Trevor Tucker. Austin and Tucker each drove in two runs while Kidd and Cam Bowers each had an RBI.

Garrett Swink got the win for Stanly, allowing three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched.

Stanly hosts Rowan Saturday at 7 p.m. at The Ball Park at West Stanly. Entering Thursday’s game at Union County, Rowan was 15-4 overall and 6-3 in league play.
