Skies above Lake Tillery are not unaccustomed to having bright lights in the month of July, but an upcoming event Saturday is no fireworks display for the Fourth.

Following in the tradition of recent parades, the inaugural Lake Tillery Lighted Boat Parade will be Saturday from 8:30-10:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Also called the “Flotilley” for short, this parade will have a number of boats of various sizes with lighted decorations on the hulls, masts and such.

Boats will travel single file around the lake, with the route to begin at the Boat House Bar and Grill in Norwood.

The prize of “Best Decorated Boat on Lake Tillery” will have a panel of five judges for the competition at this event.

Bad weather or lake levels may impact the route and duration of the parade.

Kim Loflin, one of the organizers of the event, said there is no pre-registration but as of Monday 192 people on Facebook clicked the “going” button, with approximately 1,900 “interested” clicks.
