Accident in Anson claims lives of two Stanly residents

A one-car wreck in Anson County at around 2 p.m. Wednesday claimed the lives of two individuals from Stanly.

The names were not been released to the public as of Wednesday, according to Trooper Eric Johnson of the North Carolina Highway State Patrol, Troop H, District 3.

In a text from Norwood police chief James Wilson, the two individuals who died in the crash were Montrell Brewer and Rodney Liverman.

Both were graduates and played various sports for at South Stanly High School. Brewer played football, wrestled and ran track while Liverman played basketball and ran track.

The incident happened in a four-door passenger car traveling South on N.C. Highway 52 approximately three miles past the Stanly County border into Anson County just before Carpenter Road.

The car went left of the center lane and collided with a tree. Both occupants of the car were pronounced dead on the scene by the medical examiner in Anson County.

According to Johnson, speed was a factor in the incident.

Officials from the state’s Highway Patrol, the volunteer fire departments of Ansonville and Center Rural, Anson EMS and the Anson County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the incident.

The families of the two occupants have been notified.
