Lee Pickler, president and workforce solutions expert of ScanOnline in Locust, was one of two business leaders named during the recent Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) National Leadership Conference as “Business Person of the Year” recipient.

In February, the Stanly Community College PBL chapter named him as its local “Business Person of the Year” recipient, and the award was presented
during a Stanly County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Later, Pickler was named the North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda “Business Person of the Year” and the state’s nominee for national honors.

During the recent National Leadership Experience, FBLA-PBL, Inc., President and CEO Alex Graham introduced Nebraska’s nominee and Pickler for national honors. Scheduled for Salt Lake City, both the Future Business Leaders of America (high school) and PBL (college) conferences were held online.

Pickler is a 1986 graduate of SCC and just completed a two-year term as chairman of the SCC Foundation’s Board of Directors. A former PBL member, he serves as a judge for PBL state competitive events. In 2019,
he received the SCC Outstanding Alumnus Award.

Since 1999, ScanOnline has been a provider in enterprise mobility solutions, enterprise networks and advanced data collection. ScanOnline has provided services for small companies to Fortune 500 partners in a wide variety of industries.

“Today our products and services are many in number – including workforce computers, end-to-end network infrastructure, workforce software, barcoding, RFID, RTLS, label printing and more,” Pickler
said.

ScanOnline Services also include professional services in the installation, configuration, maintenance and management of mobile devices and wireless LAN systems. ScanOnline rounds out solutions by partnering
with leading companies in enterprise workforce software to provide centralized management platforms to help them run more efficiently.

The national Business Person of the Year program began in 1980. SCC’s chapter was one of the first participating groups, honoring Nell Poplin, owner of Lee James Clothing Store.

Since then several local business leaders and chapter recipients have received state honors and in 1989 Gene Starnes, owner of Starnes Jewelry, Albemarle, was honored at the national conference in Orlando, Fla.
