The Friends of Stanly County Public Library usually has two book sales each year to raise money for the library. This year though, due to the coronavirus, the group has had to get creative.

The group canceled its planned April book sale and instead is having a virtual book sale. People who are interested can go to https://friends-of-the-stanly-county-library.square.site/s/shop and purchase bundles of eight books from categories such as classic, mystery, history, self-help, children and sports for only $5.

From 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 12, the books will be available for curbside pickup at the main library, 133 E. Main St., Albemarle.

“Our main fundraisers are the book sales,” said Carol Sasser, president of the Friends of Stanly County Library, which was created in 1992. She said the group already organized a drive-through book sale earlier this year which was “very successful.”

The money raised from the book sales go to fund programs for the library, such as the summer reading program, the schools’ Battle of the Books and author speaking events.

“Our books are 75 percent donated which means they are nice books in good shape,” Sasser said.

People can also go to the main library to donate books for the virtual book sale. Sasser said the group would like to have more children’s books.
