One elementary school in Stanly will switch to remote learning as of Sept. 1 for the remainder of this week.

Stanly County Schools’ interim Superintendent Vicky Calvert issued a press release Monday stating Badin Elementary School was going to remote learning due to positive COVID-19 tests.

The release stated several students and staff tested positive for COVID-19 and “due to several students and staffing having positive COVID-19 test results and numerous student absences due to COVID-like symptoms, the Stanly County Health Department recommends Badin Elementary School (K-4 students) transition to remote learning September 1 through September 4.”

Meals will still be served at Badin in the parking lot between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The statement further said SCS “holds the safety and well-being of all students and staff as our highest priority. We truly want and need our students to be with us in our school buildings, and when we must temporarily close doors for deep cleaning or quarantine, we share your frustrations that our students cannot be physically present at their campuses.

“We must continue to be vigilant in our personal responsibilities to help reduce the spread of this virus. We really appreciate our families doing everything they can to help us keep our doors open. We continue to (sic) ask that you please wear (sic) masks, wash hands and maintain social distancing. We are depending on our families to keep children at home if they are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to an individual with symptoms or who is confirmed positive. When everyone plays their part, it increases the chances that we can continue to serve students in our schools.”
