As concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic put the Stanly Classic Golf Tournament on hold this past May, the Stanly Community College Foundation was determined to hold the event at a later day.

Rescheduled for Aug. 28 at The Tillery Traditions Country Club, the tournament turned out to be a success. The weather was hot, but albeit beautiful, and dozens showed up to support the Foundation’s tournament — whether to volunteer for a registration table, put out golf sponsor signage or just play golf, it was all for a good cause — to help students in need.

“Even in a pandemic we were successful in raising over $45,000 with proceeds going toward scholarships and institutional needs,” said Jeania Martin, Foundation executive director. “We are very thankful to our corporate sponsors, golf committee, volunteers and in-kind partners in helping with this year’s golf tournament.”

First place went to Pinnacle Bank and members David Smith, Dwayne Deutherage, David Burleson and David Palmer. The second place team was Brady Services. Players include Ryan Hughes, Aaron Hughes, Clayton Hank and Michael Hedrick. The third place team was Clint Miller Exterminating. Team players include Scott Brady, Michael Preddy, Dave Buck and Clint Miller.
