Jace Thompson continues to have an impact in the community.

Thompson, who died at age 5 in 2018 of an inoperable pediatric brain cancer called DIPG, was the inspiration for the Warrior Jace Foundation, which will host the Kickin It For Jace kickball tournament at Officer Jeff Shelton Park in Locust Saturday.

The opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m., with the championship game starting around 5:15 p.m.

Due to COVID-19, this is the first fundraiser the foundation has been able to have in person during 2020, Jennifer Thompson, Jace’s mother, said.

Fourteen teams have signed up for the tournament. Admission is free, but team entry fees, as well as concessions, a tent with kids activities and DJ, will help the foundation assist with DIPG clinical trial research, Jennifer Thompson said.

“We want a good spectator turnout,” she said.

September is National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.
