N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close McNeil Road near N.C. Highway 24-27 on Wednesday, weather permitting. The closure is part of a larger project to widen N.C. 24-27 from N.C. 740 in Albemarle to east of the Pee Dee River.

Crews will install a storm drain crossing during the closure, expected to last up to six days. Officials anticipate opening the road by Oct. 6.

Drivers will be detoured along Indian Mound Road and N.C. 24-27, returning to McNeil Road.

The project includes widening N.C. 24-27 to a four-lane divided roadway with improvements at several intersections in the corridor, including a roundabout at Anderson Road/Barnard Road.

The project also calls for reduced conflict intersections to be built at Anderson Road, Anderson Grove Church Road and Sweet Home Church Road. A reduced conflict intersection, or RCI, is a general term to describe designs that improve safety by reducing the potential locations, or conflict points, where crashes may occur.
