Gavin Rowe, a senior at Stanly Early College (SEC), will be graduating from the program in May with his Associates in Science.

He hopes to transfer to NC State in the fall and major in biology. His long-term plans include obtaining his PhD in physical therapy and working his way into sports physical therapy.

In the meantime, Rowe plans to apply to at least six colleges to weigh his options before committing to one. He has already been accepted into Wingate University and Brevard College.

Besides academics, Rowe is a very involved individual in both school and community organizations.

Earlier this year, he was one of the few offered the chance to attend the Governor’s School of North Carolina, but missed the opportunity due to COVID-19.

Rowe is an active member of the Psi Theta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for community colleges, while also balancing a full semester of courses and a part-time job.

When asked about his time at SEC, Rowe is grateful for the opportunities received and connections made with so many individuals due to the small, personalized structure at SEC.

“Due to these close connections, the teachers and staff are able to write good recommendations that really reflect who you are, which has been beneficial in the college and scholarship application process,” says Rowe.

He feels as if the environment of high expectations really prepared him for school years to come, while also creating a need to partake in community service.

Likewise, Rowe encourages all individuals considering the program to apply because it has been an opportunity he is extremely grateful for.
