SCC students receive Golden LEAF Scholarships

Students from Stanly Community College (SCC) recently received Golden LEAF scholarships through the North Carolina Community College System. The Golden LEAF Scholarship program is designed
to help North Carolinians attend the state’s community colleges, and is funded through a grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation.

The following students received Golden LEAF scholarships while attending the 2020 summer and/or fall semesters: Graci Hudson/Accounting, Tanya Harris/Business Administration, Meagan Thompson/Associate in General Education (AGE) Nursing, Erson Bonhomme/AGE Nursing, Tanisha Broadnax/Human Services Technology, Kiera Morrison/Nursing, Baylee Russell/Radiography Technology, Laton Burleson/Biomedical
Equipment Technology, Lashonta Scarboro/Business Administration, Meristacia Detlef/Infant-Toddler Care Certificate, Vyktoria Iverson/Accounting, Pennialisha Lawson/Early Childhood Education, Angela Murphy/Respiratory Therapy, Hannah Mills/AGE Nursing, D’Anya Chance/Criminal Justice Technology, Angelia Wozinsky/Associate in Science, Avery Owens/Electrical Lineworker, Bryan Tinco-Reyes/Electrical Lineworker, Jalen Long/Electrical Lineworker.

The scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation and childcare expenses related to attending classes during the 2020 academic year.

Eligible students must demonstrate financial need and reside in rural counties that are tobacco-dependent and/or economically distressed. Scholarships are available for both occupational and curriculum students and are awarded during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

The Golden LEAF Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to help transform North Carolina’s economy. The foundation receives one-half of North Carolina’s funds from the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement with cigarette manufacturers and places special emphasis on assisting tobacco dependent, economically distressed and/or rural communities across the state.
