Earlier this year, statewide results for the SAT were released along with numbers from various schools including Stanly County Schools (SCS).

Gray Stone Day had both the highest participation in the test and the highest overall average scores as well of the six schools in the county. The Misenheimer school had 100 percent of its students taking the test with an average score of 1,169 out of a possible 1,600. The Knights’ average was 139 points above the national average of 1,030 and was slightly lower from last year’s average (1,177).

From the county, Stanly Early College was second with an average of 1,121, down three points from last year with 38.2 percent taking the test. West Stanly was third in the county (1,057), followed by North Stanly (1,044), South Stanly (1,018) and Albemarle (962). North’s average rose the most in the county, 70 points, with South and Albemarle’s numbers also showing a slight increase.

As a county, Stanly finished with a 1,034 average, just below Union (1,056) and Davidson (1,076); all three finished below the state average of 1,089.

South Stanly was second in the county in terms of the percentage of students taking the test (43 percent), followed by Albemarle (42), North (41), Early College and West (30.9).
