Albemarle man airlifted to CMC after hitting utility pole

An Albemarle man was airlifted to CMC Main in Charlotte after a serious car accident Thursday afternoon, Albemarle police said.
Edward Earl Hill, 45, was heading south on the Northeast Connector in his 2014 Toyota passenger vehicle when he veered off on the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, Police Chief David Dulin said. The accident, which occurred at 1:32 p.m., caused several power outages in the area.
Atrium Health’s MedCenter air picked up Hill and airlifted him to Charlotte. Dulin has no current information about his condition.
Dulin cannot confirm what caused Hill to crash, but he said it wasn’t raining at the time.
Hill’s estimated travel speed at the time of the crash was 55 miles per hour, Dulin said, adding that no other vehicles were involved.
