LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Act like an adult and wear a mask

I write to express my disappointment in the citizens of Stanly County.

At least half fail to wear masks, or respect social distancing.

In the past few weeks I have shopped at many stores that have signs that masks are required and that social distancing should be respected. These stores all failed to enforce these rules. They rely on their customers to do the right thing. What a joke.

Leadership by county officials seem so low key for such a serious health issue. Law enforcement backed out early, saying they would only respond in a case of trespassing. How about just providing a visible presence? Maybe wearing a mask in some of these locations. I’m unimpressed with your dedication to the safety and welfare of our citizens.

Recently I was at a supermarket and this scene occurred. I was standing by the meat counter and a man walked up and stood right next to me. I turned to him and said, “Not only are you too close, but you are not wearing a mask.” He moved, but I heard him mumble “politics” as he walked away.

How foolish can people be to think a deadly virus has a party affiliation?

To those that do care, I thank you.

To those that don’t, wake up and act like adults. It is possible that some of the deaths from COVID-19 that have occurred in Stanly County are the result of individuals that are too lazy, can’t be bothered or just don’t care.
