One woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a fire Friday morning in Albemarle.

At approximately 5:16 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to 526 Waddell Dr. where the body of 38-year-old Sylvia Little was found. Albemarle Police Department officers were on the scene as well as firefighters from the North Carolina Air National Guard, both finding flames visible at the time of arrival.

According to a press release from the Albemarle Fire Department, firefighters entered the structure and were able to control the blaze within moments.

Albemarle Fire Marshal Michael Roark identified the deceased victim and said the victim’s family had been notified. Roark also noted the fire was put out approximately at 5:39 a.m.

Both the release and Roark stated the cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation. Roark added the cause of death for Little had also not been determined.

The release stated no responders were injured.

While AFD and the National Guard fought the fire, Roark said representatives from Eastside, Endy and Bethany fire departments responded to the stations to cover the city in case any additional fires not related to the Waddell incident happened while responders fought the fire.
