The Center Rural Fire Department announced Wednesday that the Norwood Christmas Parade was canceled because of COVID-19. It was scheduled Dec. 2.

“The Center Rural Fire Department is an integral part of the Norwood community. I would like to take this time to commend the Central Rural Fire Department in Norwood for their continued excellence in achieving a great fire rating that results in our business’ insurance premiums being much lower and our residential rates lower, as well,” Norwood Town Administrator Scott Howard. “The next time you see one of our brave fire department workers, thank them. Also, let’s all look forward to and support Central Rural Fire Department’s Christmas Parade next year.”

In place of the parade, Norwood Central Business District, the Town of Norwood, Norwood Police Department and Memorial Baptist Church will host Christmas on the Square from 3-7 p.m. Dec. 5.

This event will include the annual Christmas tree lighting; a meet and greet with Santa; a cocoa, cider and s’mores station; a Christmas train; a kids craft workshop; a snowball fight; food trucks and craft vendors; and community toy drive and more.
