In January, students in Stanly County Schools will benefit from the NC Education Corps, a new initiative of The North Carolina State Board of Education, Office of the Governor and American Ripples.

The Corps is a response to the impact COVID-19 is having on schools, as many students struggle to keep up with learning.

It will provide emergency relief by employing community members — including current college students and recent graduates experiencing financial strain or loss of employment — to provide wraparound student services to K-12 students across the state.

“NC Education Corps will provide immediate relief and ongoing support to students in need. We’re so grateful for everyone involved,” said Eric Davis, chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Education.

Corps members will be hired this December to begin work with Stanly County Schools in January. They’ll serve the school district’s greatest needs by tutoring, providing technology navigation, counselors assistance, volunteer coordination and more.

Corps members will serve with school districts for six months, starting in January. They’ll receive ongoing training and support and earn a living wage as compensation for their time.
