Chestnut retains position on New London Board after recount

As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, the Stanly County Board of Elections completed its recount in the race for the third and final spot up for grabs in the November election for New London.

According to Elections Director Kimberly Blackwelder, Johnny Chestnut finished in third place with 209 votes, one ahead of mayor pro tem Bill Peak.

New London’s next meeting of the town council will be Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
