Firefighters respond to fire at mobile home in Stanfield

Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire around 6:24 a.m. Saturday on Willow Street in Stanfield.
West Stanly Fire Department arrived on the scene along with Oakboro Fire Department, Ridgecrest Volunteer Fire Department and Midland Fire and Rescue, according to Stanly County Fire Marshal Danny Barham.
The owner of the mobile home was not inside the house and the pets had safely been removed prior to the fire.
Barham said it took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. While no other surrounding properties were damaged, he said the mobile home was a “total loss” and is “not livable” anymore. The owner will be receiving assistance through Red Cross.
Barham said the fire was “very dramatic” due to the presence of oxygen bottles in the house.
“We’re lucky we didn’t get some firefighters hurt because oxygen bottles and fires do not mix,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Barham said, though he added it started on the left side of the home.
