Monday’s meeting of the Norwood Town Council will likely include the acceptance of the resignation of one of its members.

Larry McMahon submitted a letter dated Nov. 16 to Norwood Mayor Harold Thompson stating the following:

“Due to my doctor’s orders, he has advised me to resign from Norwood Town Board. It is a very serious decision that I have been pondering for several months. I wish the Board much success in the coming years,” the letter read.

According to past minutes of the town council, McMahon has not attended a meeting of the council either in person or on the phone since the February meeting. Also a former mayor of Norwood, McMahon first served on the council in 1993 and served for 22 years.

Town Administrator Scott Howard said the letter was submitted to the town around Nov. 18. He said the procedure to replace McMahon’s seat would be for the council to discuss and nominate someone for the position who was of legal age and a citizen of Norwood. There is no time limit for approval of a new council member, he added.

The acceptance of McMahon’s resignation is one of the consent agenda items for Monday’s meeting of the council. The agenda does not have a discussion of McMahon’s replacement listed on it as of Friday afternoon.
