An Albemarle church will host a Christmas giveaway Thursday.

Resurrection Community Church, 1325 E. Main St., will have a community outreach Christmas event, giving out free boxed groceries, food, meals, clothes and shoes to those in need, along with free haircuts and free car washes.

The event is sponsored by Cafe Smith’s, which operates a food truck in Albemarle as well as the Badin Inn Restaurant.

Joshua Smith, owner of the food truck, said “we know people are still in need. You’re not alone.”

The food truck, which does a food giveaway every other Tuesday, will give free meals away at Thursday’s event.

Donations are being accepted for the event of clothing and money, with those donating money asked to donate to SmithsEnterprises on cash apps for smartphones.

“We just want to be a blessing to people. We understand people are in need and we’re blessed to be a blessing to other people,” Smith said. “We’re not rich, but we are blessed to be able to bless others…we have to be a light in the darkness.”
