Enforcement of speeding laws with new equipment for the Badin Police Department has been delayed, according to comments made at the latest town council meeting.

Police Chief Stephen Smith, speaking to the Town Council for the police report, said the staff has new equipment to enforce speeding laws more accurately. However, the staff has been waiting for classes at Stanly Community College in order to train the officers in its use.

Smith, who said the town now has five full-time officers and one part-time, said only one officer is certified to use the equipment.

He said he has increased patrols to stop more cars.
