Stanly Health Foundation hosted its first prize drawing Friday.

Billy Sowards of Albemarle won $1,000 from the foundation’s calendar drawing. The foundation sold 1,850 calendars, 150 short of its initial goal of 2,000.

“Considering it’s in the first year of this fundraiser and the climate of 2020, I feel really good about that,” said Kim McGowen, annual giving officer, Stanly Health Foundation. “I’ve already had folks trying to purchase calendars since yesterday trying to get in on the action, but we ended sales for this year on Dec. 31, which will be our policy.”

The prize payout will be $250 each Monday, $500 each Wednesday and $1,000 each Friday, along with early bird drawings of $3,000 on Memorial Day in May and $5,000 on Black Friday in November.

“The best part of it all is that we were able to raise almost $85,000 for the John P. Murray Community Care Clinic and Stanly Health Foundation to continue our mission to improve the health of everyone in our community,” McGowen said. “These funds will stay right here in Stanly County and we couldn’t be more grateful for the outpouring of support, especially amid the difficulties of 2020.”

The first sale of calendars, priced at $100 each, was so successful that the foundation has an on-sale date of Sept. 15 for its 2022 cash calendars.
