On Jan. 15, more than 60 city employees will participate in the city’s annual Employee Service Day honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Employees will spend part of their day volunteering at local non-profit organizations.

City employee volunteers will serve at eight sites, including Stanly Community Christian Ministries, Hospice of Stanly County, Stanly County Senior Services, Habitat for Humanity, Amhurst Gardens, Keep Stanly Beautiful, Mary and Martha Center for Women and City Lake Park.

“City employee volunteers will work at their respective sites from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.” said Lisa Kiser, the city’s Parks and Recreation director and coordinator of the service day event. “We are very grateful to City Council and City Administration for supporting this initiative.

“City officials have always promoted city participation in honoring Dr. King’s legacy, and this is just the latest example. We are especially excited that our annual Employee Service Day exemplifies the cooperative diversity that Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. advocated. It is reflected both in the diversity of the organizations where city employees will be serving, and in the diversity of the employees who have stepped forward to volunteer.”
