A former member of the Norwood Town Council was reappointed to the board at Monday’s meeting.

Wes Hartsell, who finished fourth in the voting results from the November 2020 election, was appointed to serve the final two years of Larry McMahon’s term. McMahon recently submitted his letter of resignation from the town council.

In discussion about potential candidates, Mayor Pro Tem James Lilly asked about people who ran for office in November who did not win. Mayor Linda Campbell said whoever did not win in the election does not have a bearing on the council’s selection.

“If you want to run for office, put your name in the hat,” Lilly said, indicating people should run for election instead of waiting for appointment should someone resign.

Councilwoman Betty Harrison, who was unable to attend the meeting in person or by phone, sent a message to town clerk Kelly Caudle to nominate local business owner Robin Davis.

For the future, Cohen said he would be in favor of changing the charter to allow the next highest vote getter to be nominated to any open terms. He then moved to have Hartsell appointed to the board. It passed 3-0.

Hartsell was then sworn in by Campbell and joined the council for the rest of the meeting.
