Badin Presbyterian

Join Pastor Dan Wray at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a discussion of science and religion on Google Meet through a link on Badin Presbyterian’s Facebook page. The church continues to meet in person for Sunday worship at 10 a.m. and asks everyone to wear masks and follow seating guidelines.

Church Updates

Badin UMC will be meeting on Sunday at 10 a.m. via Facebook live for the foreseeable future due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the area. Check the church’s Facebook page for more information.

Stony Hill UMC is choosing to continue drive-in worship services each Sunday in January at 10:30 a.m. Reopening has been postponed because of the rise of Covid-19 cases in the county. The Reopening Task Force will meet again Feb. 1 to assess possibilities.

Palestine UMC announced a return to drive-in Sunday worship services at 11 a.m. Please remain in cars for the duration of the service.

Morrow Mountain

Ranger Alden Early will lead a geology hike Jan. 24 from 10-11 a.m. on the easy (0.6 mile) Laurel Trail. Attendance is limited so register via email at alden.early@ncparks.gov. Meet in the museum parking lot.

Badin VFD

It’s time for the next round of barbecue provided by the Badin Volunteer Fire Department. The drive-through event will begin at 11 a.m. Jan. 30 in the ALCOA parking lot on N.C. Highway 740. Delivery may be requested for five or more plates if orders are placed before 10:30 a.m. Pork plates, pork by-the-pound or chicken halves are $8 each.

Better Badin

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Loafers and Legends on Falls Road. Many events for 2021 are still undecided, but the Community Yard Sale will take place April 4 in the ALCOA parking lot. Keep the date in mind when the decluttering bug bites.

Town Business

Limb and brush pickup is Feb. 2, the first Tuesday of the month as always. Limbs must be no larger than six inches diameter or 10 feet long, and nothing should be placed curbside more than one week ahead of pickup.

Leaf collection continues through February.

Town Council’s next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Badin Conference Center.

The town was recently awarded a grant by the Cannon Foundation for the purpose of adding a 20-foot by 40-foot pavilion in West Badin Park which will provide much needed shade for summertime community gatherings.

The January copy of “The Badin Villager” newsletter is now available in revamped newspaper boxes in front of Town Hall and at the public message board in front of the Post Office. Check out the news about the commercial district as well as Mayor Anne Harwood’s letter to town residents.

Badin Library

There’s still time to join the Virtual Winter Reading challenge through READsquared! for Kids and Teens. Sign up, then record books read between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28 to earn badges, unlock games and earn a completion certificate. Download the app or access the program through http://stanlycountylibrary.readsquared.com/

Library hours remain the same in January. Monday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Badin Historic Museum

The museum is closed the rest of this month, but visitors are invited to visit on Tuesdays or Sundays to enjoy the updated exhibits when it reopens in February.
