Gray Stone’s women’s cross-country team secured a spot in the upcoming 1A state championship meet by placing third at Saturday’s Midwest Regional in Kernersville at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex.

The Knights finished third overall as a team qualifying for the state finals despite having one teammate not available to run due to a COVID exposure. Gray Stone finished with 50 points as a team behind regional champion Pine Lake Prep (37) and the Community School of Davidson (48).

Knights freshman Emberleigh Pauley-Brown won individual honors as regional champion, finishing first with a time of 20:52. Gray Stone freshman Grace Epphimer earned All-Region honors, finishing sixth in 21:43. Kimbal Chapman, a senior, was third on the Knights and 14th overall in 23:08, followed on the team by freshmen Anaston Trexler (16th-23:13) and Addison Carman (34th-24:51).

Top finishers from other Stanly schools at the Midwest Regionals included South Stanly’s Jacy Noble, who finished 17th overall in 23:15, and North Stanly’s Lexi Goode, who placed 25th with a time of 24:15.
