At last weekend’s state championship meet in Kernersville, the Gray Stone women ran in the 1A women’s race as one of 12 teams competing for the state title.

Gray Stone finished tied for team points with Research Triangle, both scoring 98 points. The tiebreaker of both team’s sixth runner gave third place to the Raptors with her finish one place ahead of the Knights’ sixth finisher. Thomas Jefferson Classical earned the state title with the low team score of 88, with Pine Lake Prep taking second place with 97 points.

Knights’ freshman Emberleigh Pauley-Brown earned All-State honors finishing sixth overall in a time of 20:29. Her finish was the second fastest time in school history, nine seconds slower than school record holder Annie Habeeb’s 20:20 in 2013.

Jenna Freeman also finished in the top 10 in the state with an eighth-place finish overall in 20:37, a personal record for the Gray Stone senior.

Grace Eppehimer was third for the Knights as the freshman finished 15th overall in 21:13, followed on her team by senior Kimbal Chapman (48th-23:22) and freshman Addison Carman (60th-23:56).

The finish was the highest for the Gray Stone women’s team since winning the state championship in 2015.
