Richfield Town Commissioners heard a presentation at Monday’s meeting regarding the possible construction of a roundabout at the town’s busiest intersection.

Lee Snuggs of the Rocky River Rural Planning Organization made a presentation to the board stating there has been talk from the Department of Transportation about construction of a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 and N.C. Highway 49. Currently, the roads meet with a four-way traffic light.

“I know the initial reaction is going to be negative and I thoroughly understand (the reactions),” Snuggs said.

He said he wanted to get an overall feeling for how the town’s board feels regarding the possibility. He asked commissioners to not shut down the project until the board received designs for the roundabout before making a decision.

“If you’re totally against it, that’s fine. At least know what you are totally against,” Snuggs said.

Mayor Terry Deese, in a text message Tuesday, said he believed he and the commissioners “have an open mind and want to see more information about this roundabout at next month’s meeting.”
