Scouts

The Stanly District of the Central North Carolina Council, Boy Scouts of America, had won two major awards presented at the council’s 26th annual recognition banquet.

Stanly Scouter Robert Cliff Hinkle Jr. of Badin received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor to be awarded to an adult volunteer.

The Stanly District won the J.J. Barnhardt Membership Trophy and the Ten Tests of Scouting Trophy. They were accepted by Luther A. Adams, district chairman for 1966, James W. Morgan, assistant district commissioner, and Charles C. Riddle, district Scout executive.

Morehead Scholarship

Two Albemarle Senior High seniors were approved as district nominees for John M. Morehead Scholarships at the University of North Carolina.

Announcement had come from the Morehead Foundation in Chapel Hill that Tom Webb and Dane Perry were among the six nominees from District VII.

YMCA

William A. Blackmon of Darlington, South Carolina had accepted a position with Wiscassett Memorial YMCA as assistant physical director and aquatic director.

Wages and Prices

An order from Washington had frozen wages and prices. A rise in prices which had taken place in the last several months, due partially at least to the Korean situation, had brought about the government action. Prices had spiraled to the highest point on record in the country.
