The West Stanly men’s basketball team looked to stay undefeated this season and in Rocky River Conference play Friday at Montgomery Central.

West’s offense struggled, setting a low in points scored for the season, but also allowed the fewest points in a game this year as well in a 50-35 win.

The 35 points allowed was the fewest for the Colts since limiting Central Academy to 30 points last season on Jan. 30, 2020.

Caleb Feree led West Stanly (9-0, 7-0 RRC) with 15 points making five three-pointers from the field while Austin Medlin added 14 points including 4-of-4 at the foul line.

Trevor Kelly was the top rebounder for the Colts with 12 boards, including four on the offensive glass.

After a nearly even first quarter, West outscored the Timberwolves (1-8, 0-7) 19-7 in the second quarter to build a 31-18 halftime advantage.

“We came out a little flat and Montgomery Central battled all night. I thought both teams played hard, but our offense was out of sync all night,” West head coach John Thompson said.

The Colts go on the road tonight to Anson County (6-1, 6-1) needing a win to stay ahead of the Bearcats for first place in the conference.
