Woman of the Year

Mrs. W.E. Milton, more affectionately known throughout the area as Miss Carrie, was Albemarle’s Woman of the Year for 1965.

She had been honored by the Junior Woman’s Club at the 11th annual Woman of the Year banquet in the Masonic Temple.

Mrs. Marshall Olin Griffin, the organization’s immediate past president, was named recipient of the Clubwoman of the Year award

Congressman James T. Broyhill was the featured speaker at the banquet.

Basketball

Ronnie Carter was captain of the North Stanly High School Comets in 1965-66 basketball action. On Saturday night he had hit on 14-of-18 floor shots and seven-of-eight from the line in scoring 35 points to lead his teammates to a 76-64 triumph over the Anson Eagles. Carter sported a 20-point-plus shooting average.

Law Enforcement

Four law enforcement officers would attend a four-week course at Davidson County Community College. Attending were Sgt. W.A. Calloway and Patrolmen C.F. Tysinger and James Barbee of the Albemarle Police Department and Deputy Sheriff Dwight Farmer of the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.
