State athletic protocols regarding COVID-19 have changed this Friday’s football schedule for some of Stanly’s high school football teams.

Albemarle’s home opener Friday against fellow Yadkin Valley Conference opponent North Moore was cancelled as well as next week’s road game at North Rowan. The Bulldogs opened the season last Friday with a loss at Chatham Central.

North Stanly was notified this week that the Comets’ season opener at Chatham Central had been cancelled. The Comets had been scheduled initially to play at West Stanly the Friday before but that game was also cancelled.

North was scheduled to open the season March 12 at home against South Davidson but because North Moore was not playing Albemarle, the Comets and Mustangs decided on Wednesday to play a non-conference game tomorrow night. The two teams will play a conference game April 1.
